Manitoba - Cello music inspired by Rob Knagg’s time in Churchill, MB, accompanied a visual display highlighting the beauty and fragility of the North from 4-5:30 pm, Sept. 10, in Winnipeg. The event was hosted by CPAWS Manitoba.

British Columbia - Fraser Valley Conservancy is a locally-based land trust conserving habitat and protecting wildlife across the Fraser Valley. Conservation efforts range from frogs and snails to owls and creeks. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities and educational events.

Saskatchewan - SES Solar Co-op owns and operates 8 commercial and industrial-sized solar arrays in and around Saskatoon. Saskatchewan residents are invited to invest. The latest share offering ends Oct. 31.

Alberta - Citizen Science Alberta Community of Practice is offering a webinar series and workshop on connecting people and science from Sept. 25 to October 23.

Books

Her Space, Her Time by Shohini Ghose is the collective story of women scientists who “looked inside stars and inside atoms, discovered new elements and new particles, and fought for science and for justice and for future generations”.

Sarah Elmeligi, a bear biologist, shares her encounters with bears, examining the bear-human relationship from the bear’s perspective in What Bears Teach Us. Photographs are by John E. Marriott.

Written by Dave Schneider, a climate scientist, Goodnight Fossil Fuels! stars a penguin who teams up with scientists to help solve the problem of how fossil fuels are harming the climate system.
